The public holidays, or bank holidays, are celebrated throughout the year on religious, historical, and special occasions.
For many people, public holidays offer an opportunity for a short break, as they fall on a Friday or a Monday. This allows for an extended four day break by incorporating an additional discretionary holiday day. In 2022, there are already two 4 day weekends: the Easter weekend from Friday the 15th to Monday the 18th of April, and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee weekend from Thursday the 2nd to Sunday the 5th of June.
